This is a nice little rest area along US-19. No restrooms or services, but it is quiet and has a historic train that is a big hit for kids. If crossing over to/from the northbound lanes, be careful crossing the high speed divided highway lanes.
The article says the engine was donated in 1969 but it was there in 1962 I know. I have pics of me and my siblings playing on it. No fence then.
Nice spot for stretch up body, rest and take some pics.
I remember this train from back when I was a little girl my mom usto take me, my brother, and sister there to play on our roller blades, sometimes swimming and have picnics it was so fun, and now I take my 2 sons there for picnic, swimming, ect. Taking pictures here is perfect it's beautiful, and real nature. Gulf Hammock FL is my home and this train is the best part of it. I'm a artist and the train its a great place to go to just clear my mind sometime and be creative. I love it.
The water in back is beautiful. There is a nice walking path and the train has been fully restored in the recent past - as of 2017 it's very nice!.. I did see pictures in 2012 when it was not so nice looking. This is known as "3 Spot"
